San Jose, CA – On the afternoon of Tuesday, June 9, 2026, a single-vehicle electric scooter collision resulted in injuries that proved fatal to its male rider, according to KRON.

The San Jose Police Department reports that the accident took place around 4:56 PM near Commercial Street and Oakland Road.

Authorities said the rider was traveling eastbound in a westbound bike lane on a black Segway electric scooter when he lost control at a high rate of speed and fell. He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later stabilized.

Investigators learned on June 17 that the man had died from his injuries on June 13, marking the city's 22nd traffic-related fatality of 2026.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office was to release the victim's identity. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the San Jose Police Department's Traffic Investigations Unit. The investigation remains ongoing.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a wrongful death claim.
