Oakdale, CA – On the evening of Thursday, September 10, 2026, a head-on collision resulted in a woman losing her life on Highway 108, according to FOX40, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 8:27 PM on Highway 108 east of Lancaster Road, a rural stretch of highway outside Oakdale in Stanislaus County.
Authorities said the driver of a Ford pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Highway 108 while the driver of a Honda was traveling westbound. The Honda driver crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with the Ford. As a result of the impact, the Honda caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.
Bystanders attempted to remove the driver from the vehicle, and AMR and air operations were requested to respond. The Honda driver, a woman, was unable to self-extricate and died as a result. The driver of the Ford, also a woman, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center.
Caltrans was contacted for a closure of the roadway. Two flatbed tows were requested, one for the Ford pickup truck and one for the fully engulfed Honda Civic. The coroner was notified and responded to the scene.
It is unknown whether the Honda driver was wearing a seatbelt, though CHP confirmed the Ford driver was belted. It remains under investigation whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
