Manteca Man, 62, Killed in Big Rig Crash near I-5, Lassen Ave On-Ramp in Fresno County

Fresno County, CA – On the evening of Friday, June 12, 2026, a single-vehicle big rig collision resulted in the death of a 62-year-old Manteca man on Interstate 5, according to ABC30, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place just after 10:30 PM on northbound Interstate 5 near the Lassen Avenue on-ramp, north of Avenal Cutoff Road.

Authorities said the man was driving a semi-truck when it veered into the left lane and into the center median, striking the cable barriers. The big rig rolled over onto its side and slid into the center divide. The driver was ejected during the rollover and sustained major injuries to his head, dying at the scene.

The number one lane was blocked while officers responded. The Kings County Sheriff's Office was notified to respond in its capacity as coroner.

A heavy-duty evidence tow was requested for the big rig, which remained attached to its trailer with unknown contents. The tow truck was directed to access the scene via the Lassen Avenue off-ramp, traveling against traffic. The vehicle was transported to the tow yard the following morning.

The identity of the deceased had not been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a wrongful death claim.
