Parking Lot at Valero Gas Station near Ventura, 5th St Injures Pedestrian in Fresno

Fresno, CA – On the evening of Sunday, May 31, 2026, a collision in a gas station parking lot left a man hospitalized in southeast Fresno, according to ABC30.

The Fresno Police Department reports that the accident took place before 10:00 PM at the Valero Gas Station at Ventura and 5th Street.

Authorities said a driver was navigating through the parking lot to reach a gas pump when the vehicle struck an unhoused man who was in the lot. The driver told police he was unable to see the victim prior to the collision.

The victim sustained cuts to his head and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.

No additional details regarding the identities of those involved had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.

Duty of Care Toward Pedestrians

Drivers have a duty of care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim to ensure they get proper medical treatment and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

Personal Injury Claims

After a traffic accident, victims and their families often deal with unexpected financial burdens, such as medical bills, lost income, and, in the worst cases, burial costs. A personal injury claim allows accident victims to hold the at-fault party financially responsible for their costs of care.
