Riverbank, CA – In the early morning hours of Monday, April 28, 2025, a single-vehicle crash left one person hospitalized after their car slammed into Riverbank’s iconic “City of Action” welcome sign, according to CBS13.

Modesto Fire Department crews responded to the scene shortly after 6:00 AM, near the intersection of Patterson Road and Callander Avenue.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found that a vehicle had collided directly with the large city entrance sign located at the corner of the intersection.

Fire officials stated that the force of the crash left the driver trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters worked quickly to extricate the individual before transporting them to a nearby hospital. Authorities confirmed the person sustained moderate injuries as a result of the incident.

Photos from the scene show visible damage to both the vehicle and the sign, though officials have not yet provided an estimate on the extent or cost of repairs to the city landmark.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No other vehicles were involved, and no additional injuries were reported. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the injured person.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
