Monterey County, CA – On the late morning of Saturday, February 8, 2025, a crash on Highway 68 resulted in a downed utility pole and left at least two people injured, according to KSBW.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 11:48 AM on Highway 68, where at least two vehicles were involved.

Authorities said a grey Mercedes and a black truck were on the shoulder of the westbound lane following the crash. A man in the driver’s seat of the Mercedes was conscious while awaiting medical attention, while another man involved in the crash was seen on the ground near the truck. The extent of their injuries remains unknown.

Officials have not confirmed how the utility pole was knocked down. Despite the damage, CHP stated that traffic continued to move in both directions as emergency crews responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Single-Vehicle Collisions and Passenger Liability

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.

California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.

Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.

A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
