Merced County, CA – In the early morning of Sunday, February 16, 2025, a motorcyclist was killed, and a passenger was seriously injured in a crash on Highway 99, according to KSEE.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around midnight on northbound Highway 99, south of Mission Avenue.

Investigators determined that the rider, a 49-year-old man from Atwater, lost control of the motorcycle, which veered off the roadway and struck the center median barrier. Both the rider and a passenger were ejected from the vehicle.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger suffered major injuries and was transported to a medical center in Modesto. Their condition remains unknown.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
