Fiery Tesla Crash Injures Driver at Millerton, Friant Rd in Fresno County

Fresno County, CA – On the morning of Tuesday, June 9, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a woman being airlifted with major injuries after her Tesla caught fire, according to KSEE/KGPE.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 7:00 AM at Millerton and Friant Roads near Millerton Lake.

Authorities said the driver fell asleep at the wheel, drifted off the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned. The Tesla became fully engulfed in flames following the crash, with fire spreading from the vehicle to nearby grass.

A State Parks employee located the driver and carried her through the burning grass to waiting emergency personnel. The driver was treated at the scene and airlifted to a hospital with major injuries.

CHP reminded drivers that falling asleep behind the wheel can be just as dangerous as driving while impaired, and encouraged drivers who feel fatigued to pull over. The investigation remains ongoing.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a personal injury claim.
