Oildale, CA – A pedestrian was killed early Wednesday morning, November 13, 2024, after being struck by a vehicle on China Grade Loop near Carrere Street, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident occurred around 5:47 AM, prompting an investigation and temporary road closures in the area.
CHP reported that a Toyota traveling westbound on China Grade Loop in the number one lane struck a man who had stepped into the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk.
Despite emergency responders arriving quickly, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. Preliminary investigations suggest that neither alcohol nor drugs were contributing factors in the collision.
The eastbound lanes of China Grade Loop, between Carrere Street and Bedford Way, were closed for several hours as investigators documented the scene and gathered evidence. The road was reopened later in the morning to allow for normal traffic flow.
The CHP has asked anyone with information about the incident to contact their local office.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
If the at-fault driver avoids legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
