North Highlands, CA — On the afternoon of Wednesday, January 1, 2025, a bicyclist was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in North Highlands, according to ABC10.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District reports that the collision occurred near the intersection of Watt Avenue and Myrtle Avenue.
Initially, fire officials reported the individual as a minor, but later updates from the California Highway Patrol clarified that the person involved was a man on a bicycle.
Police stated the car was traveling westbound on Myrtle Avenue when it struck the bicyclist. The victim was taken to the hospital with major injuries that, fortunately, are not considered life-threatening.
The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with investigators, and officials have confirmed that DUI is not suspected in this case. The collision is still under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the crash.
Duty of Care Toward Bicyclists
Drivers have a Duty of Care toward bicyclists, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim to ensure they get proper medical treatment and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those injured in a bicycle accident, filing a Personal Injury claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
