Walnut Creek, CA – A pedestrian hit-and-run early Sunday morning, June 2, 2024, has left two individuals in critical condition, according to ABC7. The incident occurred at approximately 5:15 AM near Locust Street and Cole Avenue.

The victims were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment of their severe injuries after being struck by a vehicle. The Walnut Creek Police Department quickly located and arrested the driver responsible for the crash. However, the identities of both the victims and the driver have not been disclosed at this time.

The crash site is near the Walnut Creek Farmer’s Market on Locust Street, which was closed for the day as authorities continued their investigation. It remains unclear if the market was in the process of being set up when the accident happened, though video footage from the scene showed tents already erected.

Authorities are still piecing together the details of the incident and urge anyone with information to come forward. The community is asked to keep the victims and their families in their thoughts as they recover from this tragic event.

Duty of Care Toward Pedestrians

Drivers are expected to provide a special “duty of care” toward pedestrians, who are more vulnerable and more likely to receive fatal injuries in traffic collisions. However, establishing liability can depend on multiple factors. Sorting through these complexities to determine fault is one of the services a personal injury attorney can provide.

Even after fault is established, insurance companies will attempt to minimize any claim they cannot deny. That is another place where a personal injury attorney can prove valuable by negotiating on behalf of victims to win for them the full compensation they are due.
