A devastating intersection accident in Fresno County is being blamed on a stop sign runner. It happened late Sunday night near Orange Cove at the intersection of Adams Avenue and Crawford Avenue on June 11, 2023.

KFSN-TV reported that two people were injured in the scary collision. The California Highway Patrol says that the driver of a silver vehicle traveling on Crawford Avenue failed to stop for a stop sign and proceeded into the intersection. A blue car on Adams Avenue collided with that vehicle.

The powerful impact sent the silver car rolling over and caused the driver who had run the stop sign to be thrown from the driver’s seat. That driver was airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the blue car also had to be taken to the hospital. The conditions of the victims have not been released.

The California Highway Patrol continues to examine the circumstances that led up to the frightening collision.

Maison Law of Fresno also posted information about this accident and about what injured victims can do to get help with medical bills.

Intersection Accident Dangers in Fresno County

A stop sign or a traffic light at an intersection is the only thing keeping cars from many different directions from colliding with each other. When drivers ignore these traffic signals or become careless and overlook them, devastating impacts occur.

California’s Transportation Injury Mapping System (TIMS) tracks the different types of accidents in Fresno County each year. In 2022, there were 415 serious accidents (leading to injury) involving drivers who didn’t obey a traffic signal or stop sign. Fifteen people lost their lives in those tragic collisions.

The accident figure exceeded the 2021 statistic when 381 similar crashes involving injury were documented. Unfortunately, there were even more fatalities to report that year. The deaths totaled at least 16 victims.

These numbers are more than just statistics, of course. They represent the lives of victims and the friends and families who must support them through recovery. In the most severe cases, these family members and friends are asked to mourn the loss of a loved one after a tragic accident.
