Hayward, CA — A pedestrian crash claimed the life of a 30-year-old woman on Mission Boulevard, north of East Lewelling Boulevard, Saturday night, November 16, 2024, according to KTVU.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the collision occurred around 9:44 PM and involved a Dodge Caravan driven by a 17-year-old boy. The woman was struck while she was reportedly walking in a crosswalk with fully functioning intersection lights.
CHP has stated that speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash. The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The CHP is urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the incident to contact their office as the investigation continues. The name of the woman has not been released, pending notification of her family.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
If the at-fault driver avoids legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
