Hanford, CA – A pedestrian was struck and killed in a rural area near Hanford, early Sunday morning, May 4, 2025, according to KSEE.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the fatal collision occurred around 5:00 AM on 10th Avenue, just south of Idaho Avenue.

Officers say a 2012 Toyota Tacoma was traveling northbound on 10th Avenue when it struck the pedestrian, who was reportedly walking southbound along or near the roadway at the time.

First responders arrived shortly after the crash and confirmed that the pedestrian had sustained fatal injuries. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the pedestrian’s identity, pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. At this time, no arrests have been made, and it is unknown whether drugs, alcohol, or speed played a role in the crash.

The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Anyone with information about the collision is encouraged to contact the Hanford CHP office.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a bicycle accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
