Fresno, CA – On the early morning of Friday, April 11, 2025, a collision in front of a pharmacy resulted in the hospitalization of a female pedestrian, according to ABC30.

The Fresno Police Department reports that the accident took place around 7:00 AM near the intersection of Shields Avenue and First Street.

Authorities say the woman stepped into the roadway unexpectedly, at which point she was struck by a passing vehicle. Emergency crews responded quickly, and one lane of eastbound Shields Avenue was temporarily closed to facilitate medical aid and crash investigation efforts. The lane was reopened within an hour.

The woman sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital, where she is expected to recover. The driver involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Duty of Care Toward Pedestrians

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim to ensure they get proper medical treatment and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those injured in a pedestrian accident, filing a  Personal Injury Claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills and other related damages. Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage.
