One life was tragically taken in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident that took place at an intersection in Bakersfield. According to KGET, the accident happened near the intersection of Columbus and Rice Streets at 9:29 p.m. on the night of February 21, 2024.

Bakersfield Police arrived on scene, where they discovered that a pedestrian was struck by a driver as they were walking northbound across the street. The driver of the dark sedan then fled the scene without stopping.

Police confirmed that the pedestrian was tragically deceased by the time that they arrived at the scene. The victim was identified as a local 32-year-old. Nobody else sustained injuries in the crash.

Police did not say if any arrests were made in response to the accident. Their investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
