A passing violation is blamed for a three-vehicle weekend accident in Madera that left multiple people hospitalized. Madera police responded to the scene on Granada Drive sometime around 6 p.m. Sunday evening on March 2, 2023.
ABC30-TV reports the scary crash occurred somewhere between the Riverview Drive and Sunset Avenue intersections. Investigators on the scene determined that one driver in the southbound lane had been trying to pass another vehicle illegally on the right.
The first driver clipped the second vehicle while trying to get back into the lane. That collision sent the first car out of control and into oncoming traffic to strike a third vehicle head-on. The third vehicle ended up crashing into a tree.
All three drivers involved were hospitalized. One of the drivers was flown to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. The conditions of the patients haven’t been released.
The Madera Police Department continues to investigate the factors leading up to the crash and hasn’t announced if charges will be filed.
