Paso Robles, CA – According to the San Luis Obispo Tribune, the Paso Robles Police Department has launched a vigorous search for a suspected DUI driver who fled the scene of a rollover crash on the evening of Thursday, March 28, 2024.
The incident unfolded at approximately 6:43 PM in the vicinity of Caballo Place and Calle Chorro in Paso Robles, as reported by the Paso Robles PD.
Emergency responders arrived at the crash site to find an overturned black SUV. The driver had fled, leaving the vehicle unoccupied.
In a surprising turn of events, officers located a woman hiding in the nearby brush, who was identified as the passenger of the vehicle. The Paso Robles Police Department states that she was “attempting to flee the collision” but cooperated with law enforcement. According to her account, the driver was described as a Hispanic male, whom she suspected of driving under the influence at the time of the crash.
The passenger sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision and was promptly transported to the hospital for medical treatment. However, the driver managed to evade capture and remains at large.
Passenger Liability
The insurance drivers are required to carry is not just meant to cover damage to those outside the vehicle. Drivers have a responsibility for the well-being of their passengers and can be held at fault for any injuries received due to their reckless actions, whether or not criminal charges are administered regarding the crash.
Making a personal injury claim against someone with whom the victim has a personal relationship, as is likely the case between driver and passenger, can be a tricky situation, which is one of the reasons it can be so helpful to seek the services of a skilled personal injury attorney who can assist in navigating these emotional issues as well as negotiating with insurance companies to ensure proper compensation for victims.
