Monterey County, CA – In the late afternoon of Thursday, May 22, 2025, a rollover collision critically injured one person in rural Monterey County, according to KSBW.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the crash occurred at approximately 5:25 PM near the intersection of Old Stage Road and Esperanza Road. The incident involved a single black Dodge vehicle that overturned, resulting in serious injuries to the driver.

Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene and transported the critically injured driver to a nearby hospital for treatment. The identity and current condition of the individual have not been released.

Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the crash. Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the rollover, and it remains unclear whether speed, impairment, or mechanical failure may have contributed.

The CHP has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Traffic in the area was impacted while emergency personnel worked to clear the roadway and gather evidence from the scene.

No further details have been made available as the investigation remains ongoing.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
