Big Sur, CA – On the afternoon of Monday, May 19, 2025, a motorcycle crash resulted in a fatality near Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, according to KSBW, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 4:58 PM on southbound Highway 1, just north of the entrance to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.

First responders arrived to find the motorcyclist down on the right-hand shoulder of the highway. The rider was pronounced dead at the site of the collision. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.

Initial dispatch logs did not confirm any other vehicles involved, and the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. Caltrans was notified and assisted with traffic control as officers worked to clear the scene.

Motorists in the area experienced delays as Highway 1 remained partially obstructed during the investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
