A truck and a van were involved in a head-on collision on Avenue 7 in Madera early Friday morning. It was reported by The Fresno Bee that 7 people in the van and one person in the truck lost their lives as a result of the collision on February 23, 2024.
The accident happened around 6 a.m. while a Chevrolet truck was headed east and a GMC van was headed west near the area of Avenue 7 and Road 22. Police believe that the truck may have crossed over the center line, causing the driver to crash into a van full of farmworkers. However, they are still looking into the matter.
Seven of the farmworkers in the van were tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck also lost his life at the scene. Police and paramedics found that several of the victims were ejected from the van. One rider was rushed to the hospital with injuries but their condition is not yet known.
A portion of the road was blocked for a period of time following the accident.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
