Santa Cruz County, CA – In the early morning of Saturday, May 24, 2025, a single-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 1 claimed the lives of two people, according to KSBW.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the incident occurred around 4:00 AM on southbound Highway 1, just north of Swanton Road.
A Chrysler 200 was traveling south when it crossed into the northbound lane for reasons still under investigation. The vehicle struck a guardrail, collided with a dirt embankment, and overturned, ultimately coming to rest back on the highway.
Emergency responders found two occupants inside the Chrysler. Both were pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities have not released the identities of the victims pending notification of next of kin. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
