Sacramento, CA – A woman was injured in a hit-and-run collision in the southern part of Sacramento Thursday night, September 5, 2024, according to KCRA.

The accident occurred just after 9:30 PM near the intersection of 35th Avenue and Power Inn Road, a busy area lined with businesses and residential neighborhoods.

Authorities reported that the driver involved in the collision fled the scene. Sacramento police have yet to release any details about the vehicle involved, leaving investigators working to gather evidence and locate witnesses.

The intersection was temporarily closed as officers searched the area and documented the crash site but has since been reopened.

California Hit-and-Run Laws

California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.

Duty of Care Toward Pedestrians

Drivers are entrusted with a specific “Duty of Care” towards pedestrians, who are more vulnerable and prone to fatal injuries in traffic accidents. Nevertheless, establishing liability can be intricate and influenced by various factors. This process of sorting through complexities to determine fault is one of the crucial services that a personal injury attorney can offer.

Even after fault is determined, insurance companies often strive to minimize claims they cannot reject outright. This is where a personal injury attorney can be invaluable, advocating on behalf of victims to secure the full compensation they rightfully deserve.

If the at-fault driver evades legal consequences, compensation might still be accessible through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Seeking advice from a personal injury attorney can help ascertain the most suitable options in such circumstances.
