San Benito County, CA – On the early morning of Friday, February 28, 2025, a single-vehicle crash on Cienega Road near State Route 25 left at least one person with fatal injuries, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 2:28 AM when emergency responders discovered an overturned vehicle on its roof.

Authorities located an individual trapped inside the wreckage, and fire department personnel worked to extricate the person, who sustained critical injuries. Despite efforts to provide aid, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the crash, and it remains unclear whether speed, impairment, or other factors contributed to the accident. A tow truck was requested to clear the vehicle, and officials temporarily restricted traffic in the area while crews worked.

The incident remains under investigation, and authorities urge anyone with information about the crash to contact local law enforcement.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
