Stockton, CA — A pedestrian was fatally struck early Wednesday morning, November 27, 2024, on northbound Interstate 5 near Pershing Avenue in Stockton, according to KCRA.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the crash occurred around 3 AM. When officers arrived at the scene, they shut down the freeway to investigate the incident.
During this time, another vehicle drove through the traffic enclosure and collided with a CHP patrol car. Thankfully, no officers were injured in the second crash, and it remains unclear whether the driver of the second vehicle sustained any injuries.
The identity of the pedestrian who was killed has not been released, and CHP officials have yet to provide further details on what led to the incident.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
