Oroville, CA – On the Wednesday night of July 30, 2025, a two-vehicle traffic collision resulted in fatal injuries, according to FOX40, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 7:17 PM near Highway 162 between Old Olive Highway and Forbestown Road.

Officials say a Dodge pickup traveling eastbound crossed into oncoming westbound traffic, striking another vehicle. Emergency responders found the driver of the westbound vehicle severely injured and pronounced them dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The crash caused the roadway to close for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene and reopen the highway. The investigation remains ongoing.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.  Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
