Kern County, CA – A fatal collision on Highway 46 near Bitterwater Valley Road claimed a life Friday, leading to the closure of the highway east of the Cholame “Y,” according to The San Luis Obispo Tribune.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the scene of the crash, which occurred on a remote section of the highway between Kecks Road and Highway 33.

According to the CalTrans QuickMap, the fatal collision impacted nearby traffic by creating significant slowdowns, and drivers were advised to use caution.

Details about the person who lost their life have not yet been released. CHP continues its investigation into the cause of the crash.

Wrongful Death Claims

Determining fault in an accident can involve many factors. One key way a personal injury attorney can support families after the loss of a loved one is by helping to establish legal responsibility.

If someone else is found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
