Yuba City, CA — One woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a head-on collision on Sunday, June 2, 2024, that left one motorist dead and seven others injured, including a young child, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The accident occurred around 8:40 PM at the intersection of Highway 20 and El Margarita Road, a block north of River Valley High School. A 39-year-old woman was driving north on El Margarita with her 4-year-old daughter in the backseat of her white Honda Crosstour when she failed to stop at a posted stop sign. She then performed a u-turn around a raised center median and began traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 20.
The Honda collided with a Ford F-150 carrying six passengers traveling west on the highway. A 27-year-old man, one of the passengers in the Ford, later succumbed to his injuries and died at Adventist Rideout Hospital that evening. The other five occupants of the Ford sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The woman and her daughter also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center and UC Davis Medical Center, respectively.
Investigators believe the woman may have been driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. She was arrested over the weekend and booked into the Sacramento County Jail on charges of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in injury, and felony child endangerment.
Wrongful Death Claims
No amount of money can bring back loved ones lost in a vehicular fatality. However, the emotional toll of such a loss is often compounded by the financial burden that falls on surviving family members.
Filing a Wrongful Death claim with the insurance provider of those who bear even partial liability can provide compensation to help cover medical expenses, burial costs, and the loss of support for the deceased’s dependents.
Insurance companies have a vested interest in minimizing the payouts for claims. Therefore, the expertise of a skilled personal injury attorney is crucial in securing fair compensation and justice for the deceased.
