Lathrop, CA – On Tuesday night, February 25, 2025, a car left the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 and crashed into a food trailer at the Lathrop Food Plaza, according to ABC10.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has confirmed that the crash occurred just north of Louise Avenue, involving a 24-year-old man driving a Mazda CX5.
Initial investigations suggest that the driver seemed to lose control of the Mazda, causing it to veer to the east. The vehicle broke through a perimeter fence, ultimately colliding with a taco trailer parked at the food plaza. The impact caused the taco trailer to push into two other taco trailers that were stationed nearby.
While the crash resulted in significant damage to the food trailers, the two individuals in the vehicle — a 24-year-old driver and his 23-year-old passenger — were treated on the scene. No one else was inside the taco trailers at the time of the crash, and no other injuries were reported.
The CHP is working to determine whether any other factors, such as road conditions or mechanical issues, contributed to the loss of control. Authorities are also looking into any potential witness statements or available surveillance footage that may shed light on the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
Passenger Liability
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.
A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
