Fresno County, CA. – According to KSEE, on the afternoon of Sunday, March 31, 2024, a van carrying nine individuals overturned down an embankment near Sequoia Lake.
Around 2 PM, Cal Fire received a call regarding a vehicle overturned on its side along Highway 180 near Sequoia Lake Drive approximately 75 feet down the embankment. At the crash site they found a passenger van with nine occupants overturned, three of whom managed to climb up the embankment unassisted. For those still trapped, rescue crews utilized a rope system to safely extract them from the precarious situation.
Cal Fire confirmed that seven of the victims sustained minor injuries, while two others suffered moderate injuries. One teenager required airlifting to a local hospital, while another victim was transported by ground ambulance. The occupants of the van ranged in age from approximately 14 years old to their mid-40s, as per officials.
Investigations into the circumstances leading to the van’s overturning are ongoing.
