West Sacramento, CA – A motorcyclist lost their life in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning, September 29, 2024, on Interstate 80, according to KCRA.

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 2:43 AM on eastbound I-80 near Reed Avenue.

Initial investigations by California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers suggest that the motorcyclist was struck by another vehicle, though the exact circumstances remain under investigation. The driver responsible for the collision fled the scene, and authorities are currently searching for any leads.

Following the accident, the eastbound lanes of I-80 were temporarily closed for several hours as investigators worked to gather evidence. All lanes have since reopened.

CHP is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the driver involved to come forward.

Wrongful Death Claims in Hit-and-Runs

The compensation provided by a Wrongful Death Claim can financially support families grieving the loss of a loved one due to another person’s negligence. These funds can go toward hospital bills and burial expenses or help support any dependents of the deceased.

In cases where the at-fault party escapes justice, families may still be able to pursue compensation through their own uninsured driver coverage. A personal injury attorney can offer guidance on what options they may have available and negotiate with insurance companies to ensure that victims receive the best settlement possible.

California Hit-and-Run Laws

California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.
