Fresno, CA – Late on Thursday night, August 21, 2025, a 27-year-old motorcycle rider died in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 168 near Shields Avenue in Fresno, according to The Fresno Bee.
Investigators said the motorcyclist rode westbound on a Kawasaki just before midnight when a Hyundai Elantra struck him from behind at 11:58 PM.
The collision threw the rider forward and onto the windshield of the Hyundai. The car continued traveling west while pushing the motorcycle down the highway. The rider then fell onto the roadway, where passing vehicles struck him again in the dark conditions. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Authorities reported that the driver of the Hyundai stopped briefly on the shoulder of the freeway at McKinley Avenue. Instead of rendering aid or calling for help, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers have not yet identified the suspect.
Fresno Police officers assisted CHP in the search effort, which included air support over the area. As of Friday morning, investigators had not located the driver and continue to search actively.
The California Highway Patrol asks anyone with information or video footage of the crash to contact the Fresno Area CHP office to help identify the suspect.
California Hit-and-Run Laws
California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.
