Alpine County, CA – On the afternoon of Saturday, April 12, 2025, a single-vehicle crash involving a car and a tree resulted in the death of an 80-year-old man, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 1:30 PM near the intersection of Highway 88 and Snowshoe Springs Road, west of Alpine Village.
Authorities say the man was driving a Chevrolet HHR when his vehicle veered off the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned onto its side. A passing motorist discovered the wreck and contacted emergency dispatchers.
Responders from the CHP South Lake Tahoe office, the Alpine County Sheriff’s Department, and High Country Fire Rescue attempted lifesaving measures at the scene. However, the man was pronounced dead by paramedics.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of family members. Investigators have not determined when the crash occurred. The incident remains under investigation.
