Merced, CA – A 23-year-old man from Gilroy died on Saturday evening, September 28, 2024, after crashing his truck into a power pole, according to KSEE.

The incident occurred around 6:28 PM on Franklin Road near Highway 140. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the man was driving a 1993 Chevy Silverado when, for reasons still under investigation, he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a power pole.

When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found the driver unresponsive. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by officials. The exact speed of the truck remains unclear, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the crash.

CHP officers believe alcohol may have played a role in the accident, though the investigation is ongoing. The crash caused significant disruption to the area, with power outages reported nearby as a result of the impact on the pole.

Liability in Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. A personal injury attorney plays a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.

Once liability is determined, the attorney can negotiate with insurance companies, who often try to reduce payouts. That means having legal representation can be vital to ensure victims receive fair compensation for their loss.
