Bakersfield, CA – On the night of Saturday, May 31, 2025, a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision, according to KBAK.

The Bakersfield Police Department reports that officers were dispatched to the 200 block of East Brundage Lane at approximately 10:27 PM following reports of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, officers located a man lying in the roadway with major injuries. Medical personnel responded and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the victim was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Brundage Lane. The driver fled the scene without rendering aid. Authorities have not confirmed whether speed or impairment contributed to the crash.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Bakersfield Police Department.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a bicycle accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
