Stockton, CA – On the evening of Friday, September 12, 2025, a hit-and-run crash in Stockton’s Seaport District left a 60-year-old man dead, and police are now searching for the driver responsible, according to ABC10

The Stockton Police Department reports that the crash took place around 7:40 PM near the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Hunter Street.

Emergency crews transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed that he died from his injuries. Authorities have not yet released his name pending notification of his family.

Investigators reported that the driver, described as a Hispanic man, abandoned his vehicle after the collision and fled the area on foot. Detectives are working to identify and locate him while collecting evidence from the abandoned vehicle and nearby surveillance cameras.

Stockton Police urged anyone with information about the incident or the driver’s whereabouts to come forward and assist with the investigation. The case remains active as officers continue their search.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
