El Dorado County, CA — A driver was killed Wednesday afternoon, January 15, 2025, after their Toyota Tacoma collided with a boulder along Highway 50, according to The Sacramento Bee.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident occurred around 12:55 PM near the intersection of Highway 50 and Wrights Lake Road.

Investigators reported that the driver veered off the right side of the road before striking a boulder. Emergency responders pronounced the driver dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and the identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation as CHP officers work to determine the events leading up to the incident.

Single-Vehicle Collisions and Comparative Negligence

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.

California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.
