Selma, CA – On the afternoon of Monday, September 1, 2025, a serious crash left one driver with major injuries after their vehicle collided with an electric sign, according to KSEE.
The California Highway Patrol reported the collision took place at approximately 1:30 PM when the driver, traveling southbound along Highway 99, lost control of the vehicle near Floral Avenue.
The car left its lane and struck an electric sign positioned alongside the roadway. The force of the impact pinned the driver inside the vehicle and required emergency responders to conduct an extrication.
Crews worked on the scene to carefully remove the driver from the damaged vehicle before arranging transport to a nearby hospital. Officials confirmed that the driver sustained significant injuries during the crash.
Authorities stated that no other vehicles became involved in the incident. CHP officers noted that early findings did not point to alcohol or drug use as contributing factors. Investigators continue to review the circumstances of the collision to determine why the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
Wrongful Death Claims
Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide support to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income.
