Driver Killed in Michigan Ave, Ryde Rd Crash in Stockton

Stockton, CA – On the evening of Thursday, February 5, 2026, a single-vehicle crash resulted in the death of the driver, according to ABC10, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol said officers responded to the crash around 6:56 PM near Michigan Avenue and Ryde Road in Stockton.

The incident involved one vehicle that left the roadway and struck a shed, trapping the driver inside. Authorities noted the vehicle had been reported for reckless driving prior to the collision.

Fire crews and emergency medical personnel worked to extricate the driver, who was found unconscious inside the vehicle. CPR was performed at the scene before the driver was transported to a nearby hospital.

Despite life-saving efforts, the driver later died from injuries sustained in the crash, CHP said. No other injuries were reported. The driver’s identity has not been released, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a Wrongful Death Claim.
