The collision involved a Toyota Tundra traveling northbound which had, for reasons yet to be determined, left Silverado Trail and struck a tree. The driver, described as an 85-year-old Lafayette man, was reported to be the only occupant of the vehicle.
Silverado Trail was blocked, then reduced to one-way traffic control, and finally reopened around 2:40 PM.

Investigators have not disclosed whether drugs or alcohol contributed to this fatal collision. The investigation is ongoing.
Single-Vehicle Accidents in Napa and Wrongful Death Claims
In a single-vehicle accident, it cannot be assumed the driver was entirely at fault. California law operates on the principle of comparative negligence, which allows fault to be divided among multiple parties. If it is determined that the negligence of outside parties contributed to this fatal accident, the family of the Lafayette man may have grounds for a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death claim can provide compensation for damages such as funeral expenses and the loss of support and companionship the deceased had provided.
