The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 6:00 AM at Jackson and 9th Avenues.
Authorities said the man was speeding eastbound on Jackson Avenue when the vehicle lost control and swerved onto a dirt shoulder before striking a utility pole. Two occupants were reported pinned inside the vehicle and not breathing upon the arrival of emergency medical services, with a helicopter dispatched to the scene.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A tow was requested for the vehicle, which had become wrapped around the electric pole.
Investigators determined that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the collision. The identity of the deceased had not been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s comparative negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages through a wrongful death claim.
