Fatal Crash at Auberry, Corlew Mountain Rd near Prather

Fresno County, CA – On the afternoon of Monday, February 2, 2026, a single-vehicle crash on Auberry Road in the Fresno County foothills left one man dead, according to The Fresno Bee.

The California Highway Patrol reports the collision occurred around 1:22 PM when a vehicle ran off Auberry Road near Corlew Mountain Road, below the community of Prather. The man was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities said alcohol may have been a factor in the collision, though the investigation remains ongoing.

The crash led to partial roadway closures along Auberry Road between Corlew Mountain Pass and areas just below Prather. One-way traffic control was implemented, and drivers experienced slow-moving and stopped traffic for several hours while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
