Stockton, CA — In the early hours of Monday, January 28, 2025, a fatal crash involving a maroon Chevrolet Suburban occurred on the southbound Interstate 5 transition road to eastbound State Route 4, according to the CHPFatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 12:05 AM.
A tow truck driver who witnessed a cloud of dust kicked up by the crash pulled over to assist, but the driver of the Suburban was pronounced dead at the scene. The Chevrolet Suburban reportedly overturned approximately seven times before coming to rest in the number one lane.
Emergency responders, including the Stockton Fire Department, were dispatched to the location. The transition road ramp was shut down, and traffic was diverted to southbound Interstate 5 while authorities investigated the crash and cleared the scene.
The identity of the deceased driver has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The coroner was called to the scene, and a flatbed tow truck was requested to remove the overturned vehicle.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is unclear whether speed, impairment, or other factors contributed to the incident. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward as the investigation continues.
Single-Vehicle Collisions and Comparative Negligence
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.
California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.
