Santa Cruz County, CA – California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers reported multiple DUI-related crashes in Santa Cruz County over Halloween night, with several incidents resulting in major injuries, according to KSBW.
The crashes occurred primarily in the northern areas of the county, CHP officials noted, with three significant single-vehicle accidents happening along:
- Empire Grade
- Ice Cream Grade
- Graham Hill Road
All three incidents involved drivers who sustained serious injuries and required medical attention at the scene.
Each driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI, according to CHP Santa Cruz.
Personal Injury Claims
When the actions of reckless drivers cause others to be injured, the cost of recovery should not fall on their victims. Filing a claim with the at-fault driver’s insurance can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.
However, insurance companies often try to deny or minimize claims. That’s why having a knowledgeable personal injury attorney on your side is crucial to securing proper compensation for your injuries.
California DUI Law
Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”
